Refractive Surgery

Correction of myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia with the most advanced techniques: SMILE PRO, Femtolasik and PRK. Unique center in Colombia with VisuMax 800 ZEISS technology.

What is Refractive Surgery?

Refractive surgery is a set of laser procedures that correct visual defects such as myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia, allowing to reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses or contact lenses.

At Instituto de Cornea we offer three main techniques: SMILE PRO (the most advanced and minimally invasive), Femtolasik (standard technique with corneal flap) and PRK (surface technique ideal for thin corneas).

Refractive Surgery Techniques

Learn about the three main techniques we offer to correct your visual defects

Most Advanced Technique

SMILE PRO

SMILE PRO (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) is the most advanced refractive surgery technique. It uses the VisuMax 800 laser from Carl Zeiss to create a lenticule inside the cornea that is extracted through a 2-4mm microincision, without the need to create a corneal flap.

Advantages:

  • No corneal flap - Greater biomechanical stability
  • Lower risk of postoperative dry eye
  • Recovery in 24 hours

Femtolasik - Refractive surgery with femtosecond laser in Bogotá

Femtolasik

Femtolasik is a refractive surgery technique that combines the femtosecond laser to create the corneal flap and the excimer laser to correct the refractive defect. It is an evolution of traditional LASIK, offering greater precision in flap creation.

Features:

  • Corneal flap created with femtosecond laser (greater precision)
  • Fast visual recovery (24-48 hours)
  • Ideal for myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia
  • Proven and safe technique

PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy)

PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) is a surface technique that does not require creating a corneal flap. The excimer laser is applied directly to the surface of the cornea after removing the corneal epithelium.

Ideal for:

  • Thin corneas that are not candidates for LASIK
  • Patients at risk of eye trauma (athletes)
  • Correction of myopia and astigmatism
  • More gradual recovery but excellent results
